Our stories need light to be seen, remembered and held.
I was gifted a candle while I was pregnant to celebrate my pregnancy. I was so excited to receive it and absolutely fell in love with it.
Unfortunately, I then had a miscarriage and was absolutely devastated. As most women will tell you after a miscarriage you can feel angry, sad, confused, scared, lonely, like a failure and I felt all of those things. I felt so alone and was a little mad at the candle to be honest.
In a serendipitous moment, I met the founder of Mother Madre at a shop where she was dropping off some candles. We started talking and she shared her history of miscarriages with me as why she started this business. I then shared my own story with her. We chatted for some time, it was deeply healing and meant to be in a lot of ways.
The candle brought us together for a moment of story sharing and holding space for one another to be seen and heard. So many of these stories need light to be seen so they can be remembered and held tenderly in the bonds of womanhood. Now, I am expecting my first baby in the next few months.
